The Last Goodbye is a pulp thriller running on the Goldsource engine. In the Gothic metropolis of Prava, the gun-for-hire Lucille - better known on the streets as The Banshee - takes a job from enigmatic entrepreneur Ark McLean. Her target: Bullseye, the deadliest gangster in town. On her travels through the criminal underworld she meets all manner of friends and foes, with plenty of action and intrigue along the way.
TLG's arsenal had to be robust enough to cover several ranges and styles of combat, whilst also remaining believable to what could be possible within the setting. No energy weapons or heavy ordinance, instead postwar surplus was the justification for why so many firearms have fallen into the hands of criminals. Aesthetically each weapon also had to continue the retrofuturist theming, often being based on notable real-world weapons that have reverence in pop culture or saw frequent use in mid-century conflicts.
The PSK-11 Pistol was a combination of a Colt 1911 and a Walther PPK. The PPK had cultural reverence as the weapon of choice for James Bond, whilst the 1911 was a frequent appearance in World War II. To set the Banshee apart from other characters, hers sported a black and blue design with an optional silencer. I consider it to be her defining weapon, although others may be more useful in certain scenarios.
The MP-54 SMG was an unholy amalgamation of several guns - the AK-47, Thompson, PPSH and a scope lifted from the XM29 OICW. The general idea was that it was a cheap mass-produced model, hence how surplus was so frequent. The addition of the OICW scope was another stroke of retrofuturism - the XM29 was a prototype developed at the turn of the millenium that ultimately failed, but appeared in several video games and films from the era. Now 25+ years later, it too feels quaint and dated like the rest of the gun it rests on.
The M67 Shotgun was based on a Mossberg trenchgun, but given an exaggerated headshield both as an affirmation of its intense power and also a slight visual gag poking fun at said power. It is accompanied by a deafaning roar of a firing sound, completing the tounge-in-cheek power fantasy experience.
Dynamite was an obvious choice for the grenade stand-in. The main concern was the design of the lighter. Once again the blue and gold motif from the Banshee's main outfit was employed to further unify all of her equipment.
